Calleja: The Maltese Tenor

Joseph Calleja’s third recital disc for Decca Classics, The Maltese Tenor, was launched in Germany on 20 May 2011, followed by Italy on the 24th. It has been nearly six years since Calleja recorded his last recital album, The Golden Voice (Decca, 2005). The voice is now more mature, more settled and Calleja is notably more in control of his “vocal facility,” as he puts it. “I have a maturity which only time on stage can bring to one’s art. If you know the role inside out, then you can find the right nuances,” Calleja is quoted on the Decca microsite for the album.

The CD offers a selection of studio recordings of Calleja’s biggest successes in the theatre the last couple of years, recalling the triumphant Simon Boccanegra in London summer 2010 as well as Hoffmann at the Metropolitan Opera in New York during autumn 2009.

The album is already available as a digital download from many online music stores and can be streamed from the Swedish music service Spotify.
